Are you asking about me or Liz Aday (guest vocalist on the album)?
If you mean me, there are these:

Here's another review from France (sounds like the Euro orders are arriving...)
------
I didn't want to put this comment on your myspace page, because people would think that you paid me for telling this. So ...
As I said on your myspace page, I just got my CD. And it is worth the wait !! What a blast ! The problem with the podcasts you made, is that you don't "show enough". And the little excerpts of your songs in the podcasts can't just stop teasing me ! A nightmare. What about the songs downloadable on myspace, and that stopped after 2 minutes and 27 ! A torture.
But now ...now, I have the whole thing, and, man, what an album.
Congratulations to you and your pals, I really like very much your music and your spirit. It is simple : I just erased my whole Ipod, and only your album is in.
I may sound a little bit too ecstatic and enthusiasm, but hey, I was just in a blackhole, that is to say that I was looking for something to hear that shakes my neurons and my fingers, giving me the envy to play.
It is done, and thanks a lot.
Good luck with your album. I wish I'd come to one of your shows, 'cause I'm sure that the band is at its best live. (What about a live CD ? or a limited edition, with the album and a DVD with a show on it ? like Mike Keneally did with his last albums ? ... Just an idea.)
I'll do my best to make you know amongst my friends and relationships in France.
And finally, I like the artwork.
To sum up : I like your album.
All my best to you and Pete, and Lizzy (in spite of what she writes in the credits, she knows bass, and she knows how to groove).
Take care, and watch your fingers. Keep on rockin'
---------
And then here's something from a local buddy...
----------
Just wanted to say that I think the new CD really sounds great. And, I do
mean great. I have been listening to rock music for almost 50 years, and
believe I have a pretty good idea of what is fresh and good, and what isn't.
This is as good as anything I have heard in recent years. The songs, the
performances, the production...all first rate.
You should be very proud of the effort, and I hope it brings as much success
and attention as it deserves.
Can't wait to see you guys out next month. |

Got my package saturday, but it took me a few spins te wrap my head around the new stuff (which is a good thing: I like it if I have to get used to music).
I'm starting to think this is your best record so far. Every song on the album has something that sticks after multiple listening sessions, and stuff that the first time seemed like lesser material starts to fit.
I love all the little details I can hear and hope to detect more over the weeks. My favorite songs at this point are:
Our Guarantee - great opener, fun lyrics (Lizzy had me cracking up the first time I heard her going 'Ooh!').
Sublimeinal - I love elaborate prog stuff.
Inscrutable You - I had to get used to the vulnarability of your high vocals in the mayhem of the rest but the instrumental break should earn you a Grammy in some category even if I have to invent one.
10 PRINT - starts of as Zappa's Montana, with the weird jumpy keyboard and priceless quick female vocals and then suddenly it's Metallica with a Kirk Hammit sound solo (only better). I also like the fact that the lyrics of the weirdest song on the album contain "Why are there so many songs like this?".
Handbasket - I can't explain why but it's in my head all the time.
Right Outside - one of the best bass solo sounds I've ever heard.
Dusty Demonatrix - your a better metal guitarist than you think. Great closer.
Stuff I haven't gotten used to are:
In A Simple Rhyme - great cover & it's fun to hear you channel David, but Van Halen has always been too much a happy party band for me (I never go to happy parties).
The Dylan cover after Dusty Demonatrix kills the great feeling of the song; it's fun, but I would have preferred it on the b-sides.
Speaking of Dusty Demonatrix, as I'm not a native speaker I can't make out the words, so if you ever get the nerve to type the lyrics, please make them available!!
All in all I think you've grown enormously and in a perfect world you'd become very famous with this.

jeroen,
A fine review my friend.

Shawn is a silly person... giggly and easily entertained much of the time. I've seen him "being silly", many times, and NOT being able to stop. It's quiet a sight, I assure you (and I laugh as I write this). You ought to see him with an action-figure in front of him. "Shawn, SHAWN, hey HEY". I would bet that he'd make an entire "album of silliness" if it were financially feasible... just cuz.
The Dylan-thing... the Dah-Dah-Dot-Dahhh-thing at the end of the VH cover, the laughter here and there throughout the album, the various plinks, ploonks and plonks... that's Shawn, simple as that. Trust me, the Dylan "impersonation" is only there because it makes Shawn laugh. We have nothing to do with it.
-Witty
p.s. Without ever having met Lizzy and Pete, from what I read, see and hear, it appears as though they're quite adept at enabling and participating in said silliness.
p.s.s. I can even hear the "voice" of the figure as Shawn puts him into action. It's gravelly, slightly cookie monster-ish. |

Cuz Yogi just loves Kirk Hammet.
I've been listening to the cd non-stop this week on my commute and I'm completely smitten with it. So many great moments on this cd that I could go on and on and on...but I won't. Everyone here has pretty much summed up most of its greatness.
I will say that Fair Use is the BIG song on the cd, for me. I just can't get enough of this damn song! It gets 4-5 consecutive plays each time I listen to the album and each time I pick out something I hadn't noticed before. Lyrically and musically it's pretty flawless. It's the kind of song I still struggle to write myself.
The King's X thing? Yeah, I guess it's there if you really pick apart certain moments, but nothing really leapt out at me and screamed blatant KX. I guess I hear KX in Yogi/HZ in the same way I hear Zappa in Keneally. You can spot the influence, but it definitely gets a fresh approach and it's all Yogi/HZ.
Despite the heaviness to most of the songs, the cd overall has a real laid-back feel to me, at least more than ARF?. The exception being Demonatrix. I'm glad that's the last song on the cd, cuz somewhere in the middle it would have felt like a speed bump in the middle of a nice smooth drive. I love the song, but it's definitely a-whole-nother beast.
OH! The performances are stellar. Form a small circle and pat one another on the back. Ya done good!

Yes. Too bad there was no video rolling when Yogi and I were doing vocals together. I'm amazed we got anything done. |

About Handbasket:
I just looked up 'elated' in my Webster - I was completely surprised by it's real meaning. I could have sworn it ment something like 'fooled'. It's sung with so much poison.
With each consecutive turn the tears come closer. |

I'll start by saying hello from Houston, TX. "Hello!"
LLL has been in heavy rotation since it showed up. I got it the day before I had to take a work trip to New Orleans... so I had about six hours to really get into the disc. Yogi, Lizzy, Pete... GOOD JOB! I also want to thank the three of you for giving me a reason to reach for my CD case again while driving. It seems like it has been forever since a disc came out that I needed to hear more than once or twice. I've probably got a good 20 listens invested into LLL and it holds up beautifully.
My trifecta on the disc comes in the second half... Moldy, 10 PRINT and Handbasket. These three tunes have everything. Like Lizzy, Moldy is probably my favorite at the moment. Great deliberate, plodding flow and subject matter that really hits home. 10 PRINT is just bat-shit insane... and I love it. I love the story setup and all the background antics in that one. I also dig 'teh metal' rave towards the end - great tone. All of us under its spell... indeed. Finally, Handbasket - another great deliberate plodder. Lizzy's tone is awesome... I love bass you can FEEL. That one rumbles your insides when you turn it to 11. Nice, simple, effective song.
Yogi... I been a fan since ARF? I kinda lost track over the past few years and didn't pick up Salve or Retrograde, but you've done yourself proud with LLL. I look forward to hearing what Half Zaftig can do for an encore... just don't make us wait too long!
Peace!

Hi, and welcome, blake!

I remember specifically when we had our sit-down dinner to hash out what was going on the album and in what order, he singled those three tunes out as a "movement." I had never considered them that way before, but they are in that sequence because of Pete. | blake wrote: | | All of us under its spell... indeed. | You have no idea how tickled I am that somebody picked up on that. |

I love LLL...
or in other acronyms:
ILLLL
I felt like a lost kitten and it's as if my CD player is now full of warm milk.

Ahaaaa! My login still works
I was introduced to Yogi's Any Raw Flesh album by a friend of mine, last year. A group of us attend an "organised" jam every year, and he was after a bass player cos he wanted to play Lois.
I listened to the track, and after removing my underwear and putting it STRAIGHT into the washing machine, I (fool that I am) said "Ok, let's do it".
Actually, we never did. Our singer for that number (and a fair few others) lost his voice almost completely just before the event, and with a song like that, we weren't going to get a replacement in time. So it's on the back burner.
Anyhow, from then on, I was hooked, have followed most things Yogi ever since.
It's been really interesting seeing LLL come to fruition, and when it landed on my door-mat (in the UK only 6 days after ordering!!), I actually made time to listen to it properly.
I'm not going to go into breaking down the songs or anything like that, but there isn't a single second on LLL that I dislike. Good songs, great musicianship without being too in-your-face, and humor, something that always appeals to me!! I like the silly!
More, please. Oh, and how about a UK tour
All the best

Ah, glad we got that sorted out, Ian. My bad.
You know what's even scarier from a bass standpoint - on the ARF version of "Lois", while I'm tuned to Drop-D one-half step down (drop C#), Beller played the bass part in STANDARD TUNING on his five-string. I think Lizzy got smart and actually plays "Lois" on a bass tuned the same as me. Why bassists choose to make things harder on themselves than they need to be is a mystery to me. |

Well, because it was just a one off, and neither of us are fans of floppy strings, we decided to do it in drop-D, with both of us tuned to that.
I was never even going to attempt to totally nail the the bass part note for note in the Beller stylee, but I might just break out the 5-string tonight and have a go!!
Cheers
